  1. Nest is owned by Google. Like any Google product it collects data on the user. If you read the privacy statement on the thermostat it clearly states that data will be used for, " “providing and improving Nest’s products and services” which means whatever Google wants it to mean. It absolutely will result in your data one day being sold to make money, most likely to energy companies or insurance companies.
